Why create a mooring field?

Mooring fields are created for a number of reasons, most commonly, to provide regulatory ability to ensure ordering boat mooring, protect the existing environmental conditions and habitat, promote tourism, and the enhance water related activity.


Common goals for creating mooring fields:

  • Provide public access to Florida waterways

  • Be ecologically and habitat friendly

  • Promote tourism and provide economic benefit to merchants with minimal infrastructure requirements

  • Be a self sustaining, user-funded amenity

  • Provide proprietary moorings more secure than normal anchors

  • Enable higher density of vessels for space available

  • Deter derelict or abandoned vessels

  • Enhance oversight of the water resource

  • Enhance real estate values

  • Improve navigational safety

  • Protect maritime infrastructure
